the House of Boom is dedicated to the manufacture of gunpowder and the development of applications (weaponry or otherwise) of black-powder technology. Headed by Stan "Kaboom" Kaminski, the staff (one chemist, 5 tinkers/craftspeople including Stan, and 6 assistants/apprentices) is devoted to finding new and interesting ways to launch projectiles or make things explode. The House has an informal alliance with Charcoal City, supplying them with muskets in exchange for protection in time of need. The staff is well-armed by modern standards, each member possessing a musket or blunderbuss as well as a variety of tools suitable for use as makeshift weapons and a few crude rockets that are closer to fireworks than missiles. Field-testing of new devices (as well as explosions done just for fun) is conducted in a clearing about 100 yards behind the house. The House is not especially fussy about who they sell weapons to; Stan believes in the idea that "an armed society is a polite society" and believes that the proliferation of black-powder weaponry tends to make the world more civilized.
The House is always on the lookout for supplies of sulfur and flint (for making flintlocks). People with an angle on either of these fairly rare resources can make an advantageous deal if they so desire.
